In 2007, two foresighted men approached the Shire asking for a site to establish an Emerald Men’s Shed (EMS). The Shire approved a site near the Emerald Museum and the Shed was established in 2008 in a Green Shipping Container. It then moved to a larger area when the CFA vacated their old building on their move to a new premise on Monbulk Road. When the EMS was first formed, it was under the auspices of the UEA Emerald. On the 27 November 2017, the EMS was granted a Certificate of Incorporation from Consumer Affairs Victoria. During January 2018, the EMS relocated to temporary accommodation, known as Shed 2, located on Madigan Way, while the Shire Hills Hub was being constructed.
Permission for the facilities to be used by the She Shed and the U3A Working with Wood was given in 2019.
We relocated to the Shire owned Hills Hub in 2020 but unfortunately the COVID lockdown meant that we were only able to use the Shed on 13 days that year.
Our commitment to supporting local community groups and individuals across the year was recognised when the Shed received the 2023 Community Group of the Year Award from the Emerald Village Association.
